Choose the right level of forklift training

Novice operator training

Designed for people with little or no previous forklift operating experience. The course introduces learners to the truck’s controls, operating principles, safety procedures and practical handling techniques.

Experienced operator training

Suitable for operators who already have practical forklift experience but have not previously completed recognised formal training. Existing ability will need to be confirmed before the course is booked.

Refresher training

Designed for previously trained operators who need to refresh their knowledge, correct unsafe habits or demonstrate that they remain competent.

Refresher training or reassessment may be particularly appropriate following an accident or near miss, a lengthy break from operating, a change of truck or workplace, or concerns about an operator’s performance.

Candidates of all levels of ability and knowledge can attend our forklift training courses as we deliver full foundation training through to testing only.

Whether you require experienced, refresher, or novice forklift training, our team can help you to choose the most suitable course in line with your experience and industry.

Refresher Training is a requirement and is vital in maintaining operator skill levels and preventing them from slipping into bad habits. Research proves that safe, skilled operators are also the most productive.

There is no fixed deadline, but Refresher Training is normally carried out every 3–5 years but may be required sooner where operators are slipping into bad habits.

When lifting on rough terrain, a traditional forklift or reach truck is usually neither safe nor efficient – that’s where a Rough Terrain Lift Truck comes in. The two-axle machine with heavy tread tires features a vertical mast or a telescopic boom as found on telehandlers.

It is specifically aimed at Plant Operators who require practical and theory-based training and assessment on a Rough Terrain Lift Truck and want to pursue a career in plant operations.

Course Elements:

Course durations and tests will depend on which awarding body you require:

CPCS – The Construction Plant Competence Scheme is the most widely recognised accreditation scheme in the construction industry. Many organisations require that operators have CPCS cards, as part of their company policies. The A14 Rough Terrain course from CPCS will reward a red trained operator card on completion, enabling candidates to go on and undertake the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ to enable them to obtain a blue competence card.

NPORS – National Plant Operators Registration Scheme is a widely recognised accreditation specialising in the construction sector. On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a Red Competent Card which is valid for 2 years. In that time delegates will be required to complete the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ in order to update their card to a Blue Competency Card.

In-House – If you need to provide additional safety elements to your employees, we can customise a training course to include all the elements and components that you require.

Who should attend?:

Candidates of all levels of ability and knowledge can attend our courses as we deliver full foundation training through to testing only.

Special requirements:

All candidates must have passed the CITB Construction Skills Health & Safety touch screen test within 2 years.
