Description
Lorry loader training is aimed at individuals that will operate a lorry loader crane, also known as a HIAB crane. The course ensures that delegates can safely and effectively operate the crane at all times. It includes checks and pre-use checks and the configuration of the crane and the carrier vehicle for a variety of different tasks and jobs.
The test incorporates both theory and practical elements. The test includes a question and answer session and a practical test that will last for just under one hour. Whether you choose a course accredited by CPCS or NPORS, the candidate will be trained to meet the minimum regulatory safety standards required.
At SB Skills Solutions Limited, we offer courses from all boards, and we can tailor our training according to the current skill level of delegates. Whether your employees are complete HIAB novices or have some experience in the use of cranes and lorry loading equipment, we can provide the training required to get them through the test.
We can also incorporate other elements of health and safety that are specific to your business requirements and how the equipment will be used. Although this might not be a legislative requirement, it does ensure that your site is secure and safe. It also shows your organisation’s dedication to providing a safe working environment for all your employees. Browse all of our safety training courses on our site or call us with any questions or queries you have.
Participant Requirements
In order to successfully complete the test, candidates will need to possess a good working knowledge of both written and verbal English. It is also necessary that any interest part has completed the Construction Skills Health and Safety Course touch screen test within the past two years.
Who Should Take Lorry Loader Training?
Lorry loader training courses should be taken by anybody that will operate a HIAB crane. As well as regular operators that use the machinery on a daily basis, any occasional or cover staff need the proper training too. Managers and supervisors might also be considered for lorry loader courses, if there is likely to be a time when they have to operate the machinery.
Course Objectives
The overall goal in lorry loader training is to ensure the safe and efficient use of HIAB style cranes. This also ensures that loads are secure for transit, according to current regulatory and legislative requirements.
What Will Participants Learn?
The lorry loader training course aims to ensure that operators can use the machinery in a safe and efficient manner. They will be taught how to choose the right equipment and machinery, including which HIAB crane is right for the load being lifted. They will be taught to conduct proper pre-use checks and to safely shut the machinery down and store it when a shift is completed. Delegates will be taught best practices and regulatory safety requirements for the loading and unloading of vehicles. The course covers the following topics:
- Pre-use checks of the crane and carrier vehicle
- HIAB crane configuration for a variety of tasks
- Preparing the vehicle for transport on public highways
- Removing and reattaching the bucket
- Correct procedures for loading and unloading
- In and out of service conditions, and how to set the machine to each
Course Accreditation
We offer courses accredited by the following competence schemes:
Course durations and tests will depend on which awarding body you require:
CPCS – The Construction Plant Competence Scheme is the most widely recognised accreditation scheme in the construction industry. Many organisations require that operators have CPCS cards, as part of their company policies. The A36 Lorry Loader course from CPCS will reward a red trained operator card on completion, enabling candidates to go on and undertake the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ to enable them to obtain a blue competence card.
NPORS – National Plant Operators Registration Scheme is a widely recognised accreditation specialising in the construction sector. On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a Red Competent Card which is valid for 2 years. In that time delegates will be required to complete the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ in order to update their card to a Blue Competency Card.
In-House – If you need to provide additional safety elements to your employees, we can customise a training course to include all the elements and components that you require.
