Delivered at our Skelmersdale training centre, it provides a clear understanding of safe working practices, equipment checks and working-at-height responsibilities.

Description

What is a Mobile Access Tower?

A mobile access tower, also known as a mobile scaffold tower, is a freestanding structure designed to provide a safe and stable working platform when completing tasks at height. Usually manufactured from lightweight aluminium or fibreglass, it features a working platform, guardrails, internal access and lockable castor wheels so it can be repositioned when required. Mobile access towers are commonly used for construction, maintenance, installation, decorating and facilities-management work where a ladder would not provide a suitable working platform.

Course Objectives

The Mobile Access Tower Training course aims to provide learners with the practical skills and safety knowledge required to work confidently with mobile scaffold towers. By the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Understand relevant work-at-height legislation and responsibilities
  • Identify common hazards associated with mobile access towers
  • Recognise the main components of a mobile tower
  • Select the correct equipment for the intended task
  • Interpret and follow the manufacturer’s instruction manual
  • Safely assemble and dismantle a mobile access tower
  • Complete pre-use checks and safety inspections
  • Position, stabilise and level a tower correctly
  • Use and move the tower safely
  • Identify damaged, missing or unsuitable components
  • Understand safe working loads and weather limitations
  • Take appropriate precautions to prevent falls and falling objects

The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical instruction, helping learners demonstrate safe working procedures throughout the assembly, use, inspection and dismantling of a mobile access tower.

Course Duration

The Mobile Access Tower Training course is delivered over one full day, typically lasting approximately seven hours. The course includes theory instruction, practical tower assembly and dismantling exercises, safety checks and learner assessments.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications or previous mobile access tower experience are required. However, learners should:

  • Have sufficient literacy and language comprehension to understand safety information, course materials and manufacturer instructions
  • Be physically capable of completing the practical elements of the course
  • Be comfortable working at height
  • Inform the training provider of any medical condition or personal circumstance that could affect their safe participation
  • Bring suitable personal protective equipment, including head protection, safety footwear and gloves

A basic understanding of working-at-height safety is beneficial but not essential. Anyone with concerns about their health, fitness, eyesight, hearing, balance or ability to participate safely should contact SB Skills before booking.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for anyone responsible for assembling, altering, moving, inspecting, using or dismantling mobile access towers. It is ideal for new users, experienced operatives requiring refresher training, and workers who need to demonstrate their understanding of safe tower use.

Further Development
