What is a 360° excavator?

A 360° excavator is an excavating machine with an upper structure capable of rotating through 360 degrees. Excavators are commonly used for digging, trenching, grading, loading materials and working with a variety of attachments.

Because of their size, power and operating environment, excavators must be operated by appropriately trained and competent personnel.

Course Objective

The objective of 360 degrees excavator training is to ensure that operators know how to safely and effectively use the machinery: 360 Excavator – Below 10 tonne & Above 10 tonne. Excavators are large and, by their very nature, they have the potential to cause damage and injury.
Course participants will learn how to safely use the machinery and work towards receiving certification from the appropriate industry body.

The course will teach candidates Health and safety, pre-start checks, controls, dangers, safety on getting on and off and all activities required to be a 360 excavator operator. The 360 excavator training course is both theory and practical based training with a test/assessment.

Novice operators will require a longer training programme, while experienced operators may be eligible for a shorter experienced-worker route following an assessment of their existing skills.

CPCS or NPORS – which excavator course do I need?

We offer training courses accredited by the following training bodies:

CPCS – The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) is the biggest and most widely recognised body. Some companies require that their operators specifically have a CPCS card before employment. CPCS offers a competence card scheme. Successful candidates completing the appropriate CPCS training and testing route can apply for the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card. Operators can then work towards the relevant vocational qualification required to progress to the CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card. We offer A58, A59, A59A and A59B CPCS excavator training at our training sites in Burscough, Ormskirk.

Which CPCS excavator category do I need?

CPCS A58 – Excavator 360° Below 10 Tonnes

For operators using 360° excavators below 10 tonnes.

CPCS A59 – Excavator 360° Above 10 Tonnes

For operators using 360° excavators above 10 tonnes.

NPORS – The National Plant Operators Registration(NPORS) is a widely recognised card scheme across the Construction, Industrial, Utilities, Warehousing and Distribution, Agricultural, Ports and Marine sectors. The NPORS 360 Excavator – N202 course aims to provide the candidate with a thorough practical and theory training in operating 360 Degree Excavator in order to enable the candidate to pass the NPORS Theory and Practical Tests. Upon passing the tests, the operator will get an NPORS traditional operator card or if they have in date touch screen on completion they can opt in for the New NPORS CSCS logo card.

In-House – Our in-house training course for the 360 excavators follows the same training schedule, however if a client would like a bespoke option i.e with a particular attachment then this can be built into the course. The inhouse is still done by highly qualified NPORS and CPCS instructor is just at the end of the course you will gain a certificate of competency. The certificate is normally used for people who need to cover for insurance, competency and to use on own sites.

Not sure which card you need?
Speak to the SB Skills team and we’ll help you choose the correct training route.

Participant Requirements

It is essential that all delegates have a good working knowledge of written and verbal English, because the training we offer combines both theory and practical elements.

Who Should Attend?

360 excavators are versatile and useful machines used primarily in construction. The size and power of the machinery means that it has the potential to cause harm to employees, visitors, and other third parties, as well as cause expensive damage. 360 digger training ensures that the operators know how to safely use and maintain the machinery, therefore eliminating potential dangers and hazards.

Excavator training is essential for novices and experienced workers operating 360 excavators and diggers. Whether they use the excavator on a daily basis, or on an occasional basis, they need to know how to do so without putting people at risk. Supervisors and managers can also benefit from 360-degree Excavator training so that they can ensure work is completed in a safe manner.

What Will Participants Learn?

The 360-degree excavator training course in Lancashire includes both theory and practical elements. Delegates will be taught the latest legislation and regulations governing the use of this type of machinery, as well as a general overview of site safety.
They will be taught how to analyse the site and terrain to ensure that they use the proper machinery and attachments, how to operate the digger, and how to complete shutdown of the excavator.

One of the biggest benefits of obtaining your External Wall Insulation NVQ Level 2 qualification is the validation you’ll receive for your skills and experience.

The post NVQ: Level 2 External Wall Insulation appeared first on SB Skills Solutions.

If you’ve built up years of invaluable External Wall Insulation experience, why not become formally recognised for it within the construction industry?

SB Skills is an approved assessment centre for NVQ Level 2 External Wall Insulation – Boarder and Finisher. We help you apply for and receive your External Wall Insulation NVQ as quickly as possible.

Why apply for your NVQ Level 2 External Wall Insulation?

One of the biggest benefits of obtaining your External Wall Insulation NVQ Level 2 qualification is the validation you’ll receive for your skills and experience.

Obtaining this qualification demonstrates your competency as a worker within the construction industry and can help you and your company obtain further work under the PAS2035 accreditation.

You can then apply for your CSCS (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) skilled workers card, then progress to the level 3 qualification to obtain the gold supervisors card.

What are the NVQ Level 2 External Wall Insulation application requirements?

Designed to be taken by experienced Installers only, the entry requirements for this qualification state that applicants must be currently working in the trade, have experience in External Wall Installation.

This qualification, however, is not to be confused with an External Wall Installation training course.

Instead of teaching you these skills, you’ll be demonstrating the skills and experience you’ve already learnt to an assessor.

How are applicants assessed?

First and foremost, you’ll be assessed using the On-Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) method.

Instead of taking a written exam, you’ll be assigned a dedicated External Wall Insulation assessor and tasked with completing a range of relevant installing work in order to create a portfolio of work-based evidence.

This evidence will then be used to secure your qualification.

Examples of work-based evidence includes on-site observation, photographs, health and safety documents such as risk assessments and method statements, and videos of relevant roofing work you’ve completed as well as recorded conversations between yourself and the assessor.

Once enough work-based evidence has been collected, it’ll be submitted for verification, and you’ll be able to claim your NVQ qualification.

How much does an NVQ Level 2 External Wall Insulation cost?

The cost of obtaining your External Wall Insulation NVQ Level 2 qualification will naturally vary depending on whether you’re applying as a private individual or an employee of a company.

This is because some companies may decide to pay for the course on your behalf and receive a discount if they’re hoping to upskill a group of employees at once.

To obtain a quote from our team, please feel free to get in touch today.

How long does it take to achieve your NVQ Level 2 External Wall Insulation?

As this qualification can be achieved using the OSAT method, there’s no set assessment period.

However, experienced and competent constructors can generally expect to achieve this Level 2 NVQ qualification within just two or three visits.

As applicants are assessed on site, no time away from the workplace is required, making obtaining this qualification relatively fast and easy.

Getting Started with SB Skills Solutions

If you’re interested in learning more about the assessment process for achieving your NVQ Level 2 External Wall Insulation, feel free to get in touch with our professional team today!

From costs, funding, timescale, and more, we can give you an accurate idea of everything you’ll need to do.

What is a Slinger Signaller?

The slinger signaller plays an important role in keeping construction sites, and other settings that use cranes and lifting equipment safe. The role of the slinger signaller is to communicate clearly with crane operators from ground level, giving them directions to help them lift and move their load safely and efficiently.

What is on the course?

The N402 NPORS/A40 CPCS Slinger Signaller training course teaches learners everything they need to know to work in a role as a slinger signaller.

The slinger/signaller must be able to direct the crane safely and efficiently, during loading and lifting operations, this is done by using special hand signals. These are standard signals, which follow BS 7121 code of practice for the safe use of cranes.

Health and Safety legislation covering safety signs and signals also includes essential hand signals for use on construction sites. The slinger signaller must make precise signals, which the crane operator can easily understand. Therefore, it is important that these signals are agreed upon with the crane operator before operations commence.

In certain weather conditions, where visibility is affected by heavy rain, fog or mist, then the slinger signaller may be able to use batons and high vis gloves as a substitute for hand signals.

Another alternative is the use of two-way radios, which are widely used. Radios are commonly used by Slinger Signallers that work with tower cranes where the line of sight is often lost.

Part of the slinger signaller’s role is having the authority to halt crane operations if they deem that the conditions are too hazardous to continue working.

If you’ve built up years of invaluable cavity wall insulation experience, why not become formally recognised for it within the construction industry?

That’s exactly what you can do when you apply for and receive your NVQ Level 2 Cavity Wall Insulation .

Why obtain your NVQ Level 2 Cavity Wall Insulation?

One of the biggest benefits of obtaining your Cavity Wall Insulation NVQ Level 2 qualification is the validation you’ll receive for your skills and experience.

Obtaining this qualification demonstrates your competency as a worker within the construction industry and can help you and your company obtain further work under the PAS2035 accreditation

You can then apply for your CSCS (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) skilled workers card, then progress to the level 3 qualification to obtain the gold supervisor’s card.

Who can apply for the NVQ Level 2 Cavity Wall Insulation?

Designed to be taken by experienced cavity wall insulators only, the entry requirements for NVQ Level 2 Cavity Wall Insulation state that applicants must be currently working in the trade, have experience in cavity wall insulation.

This qualification, however, is not to be confused with a cavity wall insulation training course.

Instead of teaching you these skills, you’ll be demonstrating the skills and experience you’ve already learnt to an assessor.

How will you be assessed?

First and foremost, you’ll be assessed using the On-Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) method.

Instead of taking a written exam, you’ll be assigned a dedicated cavity wall insulation assessor and tasked with completing a range of relevant cavity wall insulation work in order to create a portfolio of work-based evidence.

This evidence will then be used to secure your qualification.

Examples of work-based evidence includes on-site observation, photographs, health and safety documents such as risk assessments and method statements, and videos of relevant roofing work you’ve completed as well as recorded conversations between yourself and the assessor.

Once enough work-based evidence has been collected, it’ll be submitted for verification and you’ll be able to claim your NVQ qualification.

How much does it cost to achieve your NVQ Level 2 Cavity Wall Insulation?

Here at SB Skills Solutions, we pride ourselves on the affordability of our Low Carbon NVQ courses.

What is the Telescopic Handler?

The Telescopic Handler is a multi-utility piece of plant that is widely used on construction sites throughout the UK. The telehandler can be used in a variety of formats to move and position materials for trades such as bricklayers, lifting roof trusses, road sweeping (fitted with a bucket on the front) and carrying underhung loads (suspended loads).

Course Objective

The telescopic handler training course covers a range of health and safety regulations and procedures as well as terminology that the operator needs to know. The course will teach the attendee how to safely operate the telescopic handler across a range of different situations. On completion of the Telehandler training course candidates will:

Identify the basic construction and components, and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.

Identify and comply with manufacturer’s instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook; other information sources i.e., Load charts and applicable regulations.

Explain all relevant documentation.

Carry out all pre-use and running checks.

Configure the telescopic handler for site and road travel.

Travel over differing types of terrain, including rough undulating ground (not applicable for Industrial Telescopic) and substantial inclines, both with and without a load.

Manoeuvre in confined areas using forward and reverse direction, both with and without a load.

Set the telescopic handler to lift various loads.

Lift and place various loads within the full working range of the telescopic handler.

Ensure load integrity and security.

Transport loads safely

Place and retrieve loads accurately at various places.

Place and retrieve loads from a vehicle bed or trailer.

Keep within safe working parameters.

Place the machine in an out-of-service condition.

Explain the loading and unloading procedure on and off a transporter

Course Duration

The duration of the telescopic handler course varies depending on a learner’s ability. However, for novice operators, that is, learners with no previous experience, learners will do a 5-day course (including theory and practical test). This course will run from Monday to Friday with a theory and practical test on Friday. If you are an experienced operator, then the course can be delivered in 1 day consisting of a theory and practical test.

Entry Requirements

Novices with no experience all the way up to experienced workers sit on the course.

For the novice CPCS course, each learner must have sat and passed the CITB Health & Safety Touch Screen Test.

The CPCS theory and practical tests must also be completed in the required order and timescales. NOCN Job Cards confirms the current CPCS process.

Who should attend?

Candidates of all levels of ability and knowledge can attend our courses as we deliver full foundation training through to testing only. This course is for people with limited or no experience who want to learn how to operate a telehandler.

Certification

Often referred to as a telehandler licence, the qualification or certification you receive will depend on whether you choose CPCS, NPORS or in-house training.

CPCS A17 Telescopic Handler

The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) is the biggest and most widely recognised body. Some companies require that their operators specifically have a CPCS card before employment. CPCS offers a competence card scheme. Initially, an operator will be awarded a two-year CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

The A17c Telescopic Handler course CPCS will reward a red trained operator card on completion, enabling candidates to go on and undertake the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ to enable them to obtain a two-year CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

NPORS N010 Telescopic Handler

National Plant Operators Registration Scheme is a widely recognised accreditation specialising in the construction sector. On successful completion of the N010 Telescopic Handler course, delegates will receive a Red Competent Card which is valid for 2 years. In that time delegates will be required to complete the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ in order to update their card to a Blue Competency Card.

In-House

Our in-house training course for the Telescopic Handlers follows the same training schedule, however if a client would like a bespoke option i.e with a particular attachment then this can be built into the course. The inhouse is still done by highly qualified NPORS and CPCS instructor is just at the end of the course you will gain a certificate of competency. The certificate is normally used for people who need to cover for insurance, competency and to use on own sites.

Further Development

The awarding body recommends that refreshers are taken regularly, to make sure that all operators are working to the correct safety standards and to correct any bad habits the operator may have picked up over the duration of the cards.

Funding for employers

CITB grants may be available to eligible registered employers. Telehandler training currently falls within CITB’s plant training grant structure, although eligibility and payment depend on the course and employer circumstances. Check the current CITB plant grant information or contact us for guidance.

The post Telehandler Training Course (CPCS & NPORS Telescopic Handler Licence) appeared first on SB Skills Solutions.
