What is the NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Interior Systems?

The NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Interior Systems is a qualification designed to recognise the skills and experience of those already working with interior systems, particularly dry lining, or plasterboard lining, in the construction sector.

This qualification recognises that individuals will specialise in different types of interior construction system and so offers two different pathways for learners to choose from. Learners must select the pathway most relevant to their role or experience, either dry lining finishing or dry lining border.

Once a pathway has been selected, all four units within their chosen pathway must be completed.

Both pathways cover the following mandatory topics:

  • General health, safety, and welfare in the workplace.
  • Productive working practices.
  • Moving, handling, and storing resources.

Depending on which of the two pathways you have chosen, the fourth unit of study covers either finishing dry lining walls and ceilings or installing plasterboard linings.

Completion of this NVQ will allow you to apply for a Blue CSCS Trade card.

To achieve the qualification candidates must complete the four Mandatory units from one pathway.

Mandatory Units (All to be completed) – Dry Lining Finishing

  • M/508/6537 Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • T/508/6538 Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Y/508/6533 Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • A/615/1240 Finishing dry lining walls and ceilings in the workplace

Mandatory Units (All to be completed) – Dry Lining Border

  • M/508/6537 Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • T/508/6538 Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
  • Y/508/6533 Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
  • F/615/1241 Installing plasterboard linings in the workplace

Why take the NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Interior Systems?

There are several reasons why individuals apply to take this qualification.

What are the entry requirements?

You do not need to have completed any other qualifications to access this NVQ.

You should however already be employed in the construction sector in a role where you work with interior systems.

This is important because this is a work-based qualification where you will be required to demonstrate your competence in working with interior systems whilst on the job.

How long does it take to complete and what does the course involve?

There is no set timescale for completing this qualification as learners must gather evidence of their competence in each of the qualification’s criteria whilst on the job in their own time. On average, most people can complete the qualification in 6 to 12 months.

Evidence of your competence may be recorded in the form of paperwork or audio or video recordings and may be comprised of any of the following:

  • Witness statements.
  • Records of conversations.
  • Written paperwork.
  • Question and answer sheets.

As evidence is collected it should be compiled into a portfolio for submission to the exam board.

How is the NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Interior Systems assessed?

This qualification does not involve any written assignments or examinations, it is assessed purely on the portfolio of evidence submitted.

All candidates are assigned a qualified assessor when they begin the qualification.

Your assessor will act as your point of contact whilst you complete the qualification, answering any questions you may have and helping you to gather evidence when required. Your assessor is likely to visit you in your workplace at least once to observe you on the job.

Once you and your assessor are satisfied that your portfolio is complete, it will then be submitted to the exam board. If they are happy that the evidence demonstrates your competence, then you will be awarded the level 2 certificate.
