Why take the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Cladding Occupations?

Whilst a qualification is not always required to gain employment working in a cladding occupation, it can improve your employability.

Completion of this level 2 NVQ demonstrates to employers that you are competent in your role and work according to nationally recognised standards.

Completing an NVQ is also an excellent way for individuals to brush up their knowledge on roof sheeting and cladding best practice and health and safety legislation, allowing them to carry out their role efficiently and confidently.

Many people take this level 2 NVQ to qualify to apply for their CSCS or NPORS Skilled Worker Card.

What are the entry requirements?

No other formal qualifications are required to take the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Cladding Occupations.

However, as this is a work-based qualification, applicants must already be working in a role where they install roof sheeting or cladding and have some experience in the role.

How long does it take to complete and what does the course involve?

This qualification does not involve any training or exams, instead, it is entirely competency-based.

Once enrolled on the NVQ, applicants receive details about the criteria for each of the units that they are taking.

They must then provide real evidence, gathered whilst they work, of their competence in each of these criteria.

This evidence can come in a variety of forms including paperwork, witness testimonies, and video documentation.

As evidence is gathered, it must be compiled into a portfolio for submission to the exam board.

The length of time it takes to gather all the necessary evidence for the qualification can vary from one individual to the next. Generally, it shouldn’t take longer than 6-12 months to complete, but this depends on how much time is committed to the qualification.

How is the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Cladding Occupations assessed?

The NVQ is assessed solely on the quality of the portfolio submitted.

Applicants are assigned an assessor when they begin their NVQ. Your assessor is there to provide helpful advice and answer any questions you may have about the qualification.

Most communications with your assessor take place on the phone or by email, but they may also visit you on-site to observe you at work and help with gathering evidence.

Once the individual and their assessor are happy that the portfolio is complete and meets all the relevant criteria, it is submitted internally for assessment by the exam board.

Rather than a pass or fail mark, the result of your NVQ will either be competent, or not yet competent.

What will you gain from this qualification?

Upon completion of this qualification, individuals can then apply for their Blue Skilled Worker CSCS card.

Whilst construction certification schemes are not a legal requirement for working in cladding occupations, most construction sites will expect employees to either be working at this level or working towards gaining the certification before they are allowed to work on-site.

Completing the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Cladding Operations will improve your skills, knowledge, confidence, and career prospects.

Once you have gained this level 2 qualification, you may even be inspired to start working towards another NVQ at a higher level.
