What is the Level 6 Construction Contracting Operations NVQ?

The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management is a competence-based qualification for experienced professionals responsible for managing commercial, technical or operational activities within construction.

Rather than teaching candidates how to perform a new role, the NVQ assesses the skills, knowledge and experience they already use in their day-to-day work. Candidates must therefore be actively working in a suitable position and able to provide evidence of their responsibilities.

How is the NVQ Assessed?

This is a work-based qualification, so candidates are assessed using evidence from their current role. There are no traditional classroom examinations.

What is a 360° excavator?

A 360° excavator is an excavating machine with an upper structure capable of rotating through 360 degrees. Excavators are commonly used for digging, trenching, grading, loading materials and working with a variety of attachments.

Because of their size, power and operating environment, excavators must be operated by appropriately trained and competent personnel.

Course Objective

The objective of 360 degrees excavator training is to ensure that operators know how to safely and effectively use the machinery: 360 Excavator – Below 10 tonne & Above 10 tonne. Excavators are large and, by their very nature, they have the potential to cause damage and injury.
Course participants will learn how to safely use the machinery and work towards receiving certification from the appropriate industry body.

The course will teach candidates Health and safety, pre-start checks, controls, dangers, safety on getting on and off and all activities required to be a 360 excavator operator. The 360 excavator training course is both theory and practical based training with a test/assessment.

How long does 360 excavator training take?

Course duration depends on:

• Your previous excavator experience
• CPCS, NPORS or in-house certification
• Excavator category
• Candidate numbers
• Training and machine ratios
• Whether training or testing only is required

Novice operators will require a longer training programme, while experienced operators may be eligible for a shorter experienced-worker route following an assessment of their existing skills.

CPCS or NPORS – which excavator course do I need?

We offer training courses accredited by the following training bodies:

CPCS – The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) is the biggest and most widely recognised body. Some companies require that their operators specifically have a CPCS card before employment. CPCS offers a competence card scheme. Successful candidates completing the appropriate CPCS training and testing route can apply for the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card. Operators can then work towards the relevant vocational qualification required to progress to the CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card. We offer A58, A59, A59A and A59B CPCS excavator training at our training sites in Burscough, Ormskirk.

Which CPCS excavator category do I need?

CPCS A58 – Excavator 360° Below 10 Tonnes

For operators using 360° excavators below 10 tonnes.

CPCS A59 – Excavator 360° Above 10 Tonnes

For operators using 360° excavators above 10 tonnes.

NPORS – The National Plant Operators Registration(NPORS) is a widely recognised card scheme across the Construction, Industrial, Utilities, Warehousing and Distribution, Agricultural, Ports and Marine sectors. The NPORS 360 Excavator – N202 course aims to provide the candidate with a thorough practical and theory training in operating 360 Degree Excavator in order to enable the candidate to pass the NPORS Theory and Practical Tests. Upon passing the tests, the operator will get an NPORS traditional operator card or if they have in date touch screen on completion they can opt in for the New NPORS CSCS logo card.

In-House – Our in-house training course for the 360 excavators follows the same training schedule, however if a client would like a bespoke option i.e with a particular attachment then this can be built into the course. The inhouse is still done by highly qualified NPORS and CPCS instructor is just at the end of the course you will gain a certificate of competency. The certificate is normally used for people who need to cover for insurance, competency and to use on own sites.
